ALA/AASL Election – Region 1 Director and AASL Treasurer

AASL_GOTV_KQ-MeetTheCandidatesThe 2015 ALA/AASL Election is quickly approaching. As many were not able to attend the AASL Candidates Forum at Midwinter, we wanted to use this public forum as an opportunity to introduce the candidates running for AASL offices. Each candidate was given the opportunity to respond to this question: If elected, what will you do to advance AASL’s new mission to empower leaders to transform teaching and learning? Read their responses and vote beginning March 24.

Pamela Harland, Candidate for Region 1 Director
Robbie Nickel, Candidate for AASL Treasurer

Today we hear from:

Robbie Nickel, Candidate for AASL Treasurer
In running for AASL Treasurer I reviewed the expectation for the position “to serve as the members’ advocate in the budgetary process”. For me, key to advancing AASL’s new mission to empower leaders to transform teaching and learning, would be to provide leadership, along with the AASL Board and Staff, in assessing the financial viability of current programs and to help identify new opportunities that will move the organization forward. I believe that school librarians need an association that is fiscally responsible and provides the structure to support the membership as it moves forward. The AASL membership provides a great wealth of active, vibrant librarians at all academic levels, educators who support and train, and vendors who provide us with the tools to accomplish our work. Our profession is facing challenges and needs a participatory membership and a strong governing body. The AASL mission statement provides a platform to build the profession and move it forward. Serving as treasurer for the Association, I would work collaboratively with the leadership as your advocate to support our new mission.
