Discover What’s in Store for #AASL19 in the Sept/Oct 2019 Issue

I don’t know about you, but I love library conferences! I love the energy that fills a room of school librarians who are sharing and learning from and with each other. New innovative ideas are everywhere you turn, and school librarians seem to be the best at encouraging others in the field. We are a passionate bunch! The September/October issue of Knowledge Quest is sure to get you excited about the 2019 AASL National Conference. For a bit of inspiration, start by reading the article about school libraries in Kentucky; it is sure to get you ready to visit the area!

Recently someone posted a request on the AASL Forum asking for tips about making the most of the AASL National Conference. I am excited to say that the September/October issue is full of conference ideas and information, whether you are a first-timer or seasoned conference attendee. Conference co-chairs Alice Bryant and Heather Jankowski each wrote an articles that gives a little something for everyone. For first-timers, you will want to read Alice’s letter to Rachel, a first-time conference goer. Alice shares great tips for surviving your first AASL National Conference. Heather gives some background about the general session speakers, Ellen Oh, Dr. Adolph Brown, III, and Jarrett J. Krosoczka. Are you attending the conference with an administrator? Be sure to read about Laura Graves Massey and Karen Haggard’s experiences with their administrators. As we all know, our job is all about building relationships and what better place than the AASL National Conference to do just that!

One of my favorite things to do while at a conference is to explore the host city when I can find a few minutes of spare time, and of course there is information about how to get the most of your time in Louisville. If you need a city-exploring buddy, find me at the conference!

If you are still looking for ways to convince your administration to support your attendance, check out the AASL National Conference website for a great infographic about making the case to attend. Of course, there is much, much more information on the conference website. From information about pre-conference workshops to cultural and school tours in the Louisville area, there is something to fill your calendar.

There are less than three months to wait for the AASL National Conference in Louisville! I am already planning my time!
