The 2017 Conference Celebration is shaping up to be one of the best ones yet! This year, the celebration will not be on the last night of the conference, but will be on Friday evening instead. So pack your western wear and gear up for a fun time, Southwestern style, at Corona Ranch and Rodeo Grounds located 6 miles outside of Phoenix. Upon arrival, you will be greeted by a Mariachi band, and later a DJ will spin top hits and party favorites until the end of the celebration. You know we librarians never miss a chance to dance!
Buses will leave regularly to and from the Corona Ranch with pick up and drop off at the convention center. Attendees staying at the Spring Hill Suites will have a shuttle drop off directly at the hotel due to its distance from the convention center.
Homemade-heavy appetizers featuring Mexican cuisine will be provided, and of course, what would a Mexican style celebration be without margaritas.
At 7:00 pm there will be a 30-minute rodeo starting with a Grand Entry Parade featuring AASL leadership, followed by bull riding, precision dancing horse maneuvers, high skill trick roping, a wild horse chase, and a women’s formation drill team.
And, if all of this is not enough to intrigue you, there will be lawn games including corn hole/bag and horseshoes. Or, if you prefer you can relax and socialize around one of the fire pits and watch the sun set in the shadows of the South Mountain.
