Do You Know a Social Media Superstar?

Acknowledging the role social media plays in school library promotion, AASL is launching a new recognition program – Social Media Superstars. Nominated and endorsed by their peers, the program will recognize school library professionals who enrich the profession and its work on behalf of students by sharing information, expertise, ideas, encouragement, dialog and inspiration widely via a variety of social media channels.

Superstars will be celebrated in seven categories: Sensational Student Voice, Advocacy Ambassador, Tech Troubadour, Program Pioneer, Curriculum Champion, Leadership Luminary, and Social Justice Defender. Details about each category and recognition eligibility is available at

An open call for nominations will be held February 13 through March 10, 2017. The Social Media Recognition Committee will review the nominations submitted and announce finalists in each category on March 20. From March 20 through April 14, the public will be invited to post endorsements of the finalists. Those receiving top recognition will be announced in a special webinar during School Library Month on April 28 and honored during the 2017 ALA Annual Conference in Chicago.
