Acknowledging the role social media plays in school library promotion, AASL annually recognizes the profession’s Social Media Superstars. Nominated and endorsed by their peers, the program recognizes school library professionals who enrich the profession and its work on behalf of students and school communities by sharing information, expertise, ideas, encouragement, dialog and inspiration widely with stakeholders via a variety of social media channels.
Superstars are recognized in eight categories: Sensational Student Voice, Advocacy Ambassador, Tech Troubadour, Program Pioneer, Curriculum Champion, Leadership Luminary, Social Justice Defender, and Reader Leader. Details about each category and recognition eligibility are available at www.ala.org/aasl/awards/superstar.
Any member of the school library community can nominate a candidate. Nominations must be received by end of day on Friday, February 1st, 2019. The Social Media Recognition Committee will review the nominations submitted and announce finalists in each category on February 22nd. From February 22 through March 15, the public will be invited to post endorsements of the finalists. Superstars will be announced at the start of School Library Month on April 1st and honored during the 2019 ALA Annual Conference in Washington, DC.
