Read & Relax: 5 YA Books To Read This Summer

We all need to take time for self care during the summer months.  Time to recharge, regroup, and center before the next school year begins.  All of us love books and love to read.  That was probably the motivating factor in you choosing this career to begin with.  This summer, carve out time for yourself while reading some of these up and coming titles. 

Last Night At The Telegraph Club By: Malinda Lo

Many of you I’m sure saw the awards rolling in for this title in the past few months.  Well deserved is an understatement with so many layers and teachable topics and moments throughout this novel.    

Ace of Spades By: Faridah Abike-iyimide

For the mystery lover for sure, this novel will keep you guessing till the finish.  An outstanding title to have in your back pocket to recommend to your lovers of ” This is Where it Ends” and “One of Us is Lying”.

Today, Tonight, Tomorrow By: Rachel Lynn Solomon

If you are more in the mood for a romance, this title will be just what you need.  A great novel to read poolside or at the beach, great for those times you need to start and stop again.  A great recommendation to give to your readers who love a realistic romance that is light and uplifting. 

Furia By: Yamile Saied Mendez

If sports fiction is more your style, check out this action packed story.  A Reese Witherspoon YA book club pick as well, this story puts teens in a very real struggle of love of the game vs. life outside of it.  A great soccer story intwined with a love story that will keep you turning pages.

Legendborn By: Tracy Deonn

Fantasy lovers get excited!  This new series mixes magic and secret societies in a spellbinding way.  Its a bit of an investment in time, but if you need an escape to a world unlike our own this title will be the vacation you are looking for.

Whether it’s airplane, beach, or backyard reads, take advantage of time off this summer.  Remember the joy of reading and the relaxation and calm it brings.  Come back to the center of what our job is all about, sharing books with students and fostering a love of literature.  You are the best example to show your learners big or small.  Embrace the excitement of reading a new book this summer while you read and relax.
