Programming Tips Inspired by SLM Authors

The School Library Month Committee is happy to announce that each day in April, authors will be sharing their thoughts about the influence a strong school library program had on their lives. These reflections will be posted on AASL social media.

Weekly, we’ll curate the author quotes here on Knowledge Quest and include a tip inspired by the author’s reflections.

Throw a Bad Kitty party during School Library Month! Download the Bad Kitty Party kit, introduce your students to these interactive games, and join the Bad Kitty Club.

Use LibrarySparks’ activity calendar to help you plan memory making activities throughout the month.

After reading aloud Jen Bryant’s The Right Word: Roget and His Thesaurus, ask your students to make a list of words that describe how they feel when they are in the library. Ask them to create a list of words that describe their school library. Watch the book trailer for The Right Word: Roget and His Thesaurus.

Anita Silvey’s Children’s Book-a-Day Almanac is celebrating School Library Month! Check back daily for recommendations on books to read for different daily events.

April is also National Poetry Month! Write an acrostic poem about a LIBRARY using Read Write Think’s poetry tool.
