Stay In and Read During School Library Month

Celebrate all month—or pick a day or a week—whatever your schedule allows. This calendar of activity ideas, author and ambassador quotes, and professional development links will help you along the way.

Suggested Daily Activity
Host a “Read In” in Your School Library: Designate several special chairs in your school library for the “Read In”. Get students to sign up for 15 minute time slots to “read in” the special chairs.

Suggested Activities by Grade

  • Elementary:  Have a variety of picture books, fiction, and nonfiction available for students to choose from and place them in chairs and play a literary version of musical chairs.
  • Middle & High: Have a variety of magazines, fiction and nonfiction books available at tables and set up a rotation for students to “sample” the selections.
