Did you know that AASL is the third largest division (number of members) in ALA? Did you also know that we have one of the lowest voting rates of any of the 11 divisions?
I’ve often wondered why, and I think that we don’t often know the candidates for AASL offices. To remedy this, we’ll be featuring the candidates here on Knowledge Quest over the next two weeks. We’ve asked each candidate to answer the question:
If elected, what will you do to advance AASL’s new mission to
empower leaders to transform teaching and learning?
We need our voices heard, and we need other ALA members to see us as the force we are. The way to show this force is to vote. We are a valued group in the association, and we need to step up and get involved. Please take time to vote this April!
P.S. Another issue I’ve identified is that sometimes we are just too busy to take the time to complete the ballot. However, did you know that you can fill out the ballot in pieces? You don’t have to finish the entire thing at one sitting! It will save as you go, and you can come back as you need to. Polls are open March 24 – May 1. Why not take a few minutes each week to read the candidate bios and complete a section of the ballot?

Just like it is your civic duty to vote in national, state, and local elections, we should all strive to have our voices heard in OUR organization and fulfill your civic duty to AASL.
