Welcome Home – AASL2023

Attendees receive a bingo card and directions as they enter the room.

The Member Engagement Committee planned the event that welcomes home our members and get them ready for the beginning of our conference.  Two rooms were used to share out information.  This information included navigating the exhibit hall, strategies for choosing sessions, networking, and knowing the Tampa area.

When attendees entered the rooms, they were handed bingo cards. The bingo cards encouraged attendees to chat with others in the rooms.  As attendees conversed, each would sign the bingo board box that represented them.  Some of the boxes on the bingo card included such things as someone from (or not from) Florida, someone who shared a conference tip, or someone who shared a session they would like to attend. Additionally there was encouragement to share contact information.

Committee members took a few minutes throughout the hour to share tips from each of the four topics. These tips were crowdsourced from members in a survey who have attended AASL conferences in previous years.  Each room had two topics shared so as not to overwhelm attendees.  Attendees were encouraged to visit both rooms to ensure they heard all the tips and saw a variety of people.

Additionally, blank poster papers were posted around the room to gather other ideas that were not otherwise noted.  Attendees were happy to gain knowledge of how to navigate AASL and Tampa as they got ready for #AASL23!

Attendees meet and talk with each other.
